Some new releases this week (musically speaking of course) for you to check out. All the new tracks are available on iTunes.
(And if you're wondering who that is with me in the picture above...that's me and David Gray...and cue the squeeeeees. I finally got to cross off 'meet David Gray' from my bucket list this summer when I met him backstage after his Ottwa Bluesfest gig. He is dreamier in person and so completely and genuinely nice. Sigh.)
After a four-year hiatus Alanis Morissette is back on the road promoting her new single from her upcoming seventh studio album set for release next month.
There's a new children's CD out on the market, and it's as much about art as it is soothing music for sleepless little ones.
The album? Lullabies. The artist? Apollonia Vanova.
Apollonia Vanova, who was born in the former Czechoslovakia, is an accomplished artist, with a resume that includes acting, singing, and being an accomplished sculptor.
The first single off of their highly anticipated upcoming album 'Push and Shove' (out in September) is 'Settle Down'
All is well in the music world again. Cue happy me. I missed No Doubt I did.
Be sure to follow @nodoubt on Twitter as well as @gwenstefani, @adrianyoungND, @tomdumontND and @tonykanal to stay up-to-date with all the latest No Doubt news.
While I spent a few hours trolling YouTube this past week and a half (I've been recovering from surgery....not much else to do) here are some 'hmmmm now that was a damn good cover song' for you to check out....you might even like the cover more than the orginal, just sayin'.
This is a totally a self-serving post...but it's not every day you get a song written about you.
Literally.
I've written about and featured a emerging Canadian singer/songwriter from Winnipeg, by the name of James Struthers, quite a few times here on the YMC BSides. Plus I nominated him as the Bell Media Emerging Artist, which he won a few months ago...so obviously I think he's super talented.
I've blogged about Matthew Mayfield a few times here on the Bsides....he is hands down one of my all-time favourite singer/songwriters out there in music land.
New month means the iPod music gets shuffled, cleaned out and new music is added.
Here are some new tracks to check out (all avaialble on iTunes)...it's a little bit of this mixed in with a little bit of that and everything else in between.
Yesterday on Twitter, Eric Alper tweeted this . . .
@ThatEricAlper Green Day's Billie Joe Armstrong played Mark Zuckerberg's wedding. If you could have any musician play at your wedding, who would it be?
Needless to say, it got my attention and got me thinking. Hmmmm.....
"In the end, a humble pawn shop worker pursuing his dream was a more appealing narrative for more people than a technically brilliant singer who’d been prepping for stardom since she was 4 or 5 years old."~Debra Yeo (Toronto Star)
An artist and a professor of the Italian language, Vincenzo Thoma is a native of Rome, Italy who now resides in Montreal. Vincenzo has been on the music for some time now. In 1992 he was cast as the voice of Aladin singing 'A Whole New World' in the Italian adapatation of Disney's Aladdin.
I may have mentioned it before but I love me a good cover song (and cue my musical obsession with Boyce Avenue and Phillip Phillips on American Idol).
With that said, there is this unbelievably talented singer/songwriter by the name of Noah who has taken the viral video world by storm with his crazy amazing cover of a LMFAO song.
Really LMFAO never sounded so good. He's been featured everywhere over the last week: Huffington Post, the Today Show and countless music blogs.
So my new favourite, can't-stop-listening-to-it album is 'Kill Yourself For Change' by the Brooklyn indie rock band Brigg Fair.
I love this album and this band x1000.
“Kill Yourself For Change” was recorded primarily in upstate New York by British Producer, Iestyn Polson (David Bowie, Patti Smith). Lead boy Geoff Ereth met Polson by chance at a Polish doughnut bakery in Greenpoint, Brooklyn, which subsequently led to an agreement to make the debut record together.
Later this year, Stone Temple Pilots will celebrate the 20th anniversary of their debut album, Core, by playing the album in its entirety during their tour that kicks off on September 1st.
