8 Incredibly Cute Quotes From Children’s Books

A Few of My Faves

“Mommy, let’s read Moira’s Birthday again,” my sleepy-eyed three-year old says to me at bedtime. Again. That’s the part of her sentence that really strikes me. We’ve read about Moira’s fondness for pizzas and birthday cakes Every. Single. Night. for the past week. And yet? My daughter is nowhere near tired of it. Luckily, when it comes to children’s books, I often don’t mind reading (and reading and reading and reading) them over and over again. A lot of them are just so darn sweet. So, whether it’s my toddler’s current favourite, a book I used to read to her when she was a wee babe, or a book I remember fondly from my childhood, most children’s books evoke really warm, sappy feelings within me.  And when I talk to fellow Mummies, I find the same thing. (My Mummy friends and I will agree—often over a glass of wine—that none of us can read “I love you right up to the moon—and back” at the end of Guess How Much I Love You without crying a little.) These sweet, funny, memorable quotes from some of my favourite children’s books never fail to make me laugh, cry, and grin goofily.  “I love you forever, I’ll like you for always, as long as I’m living, my baby you’ll be.”Love You Forever, Robert Munsch "Mama's right here. And I always will be. You are my shining star. Mama's right here. Through the rest of your life. My love is wherever you are!"Mama’s Right Here, Liza Baker “It has been a terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day. My mom says some days are like that."Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day, Judith Viorst “I will not play at tug o' war. I'd rather play at hug o' war, Where everyone hugs, Instead of tugs, Where everyone giggles, And rolls on the rug.”Where the Sidewalk Ends, Shel Silverstein “He built a small house, called a cocoon, around himself. He stayed inside for more than two weeks. Then he nibbled a hole in the cocoon, pushed his way out and…he was a beautiful butterfly!”The Very Hungry Caterpillar, Eric Carle “‘Ronald,’ said Elizabeth, ‘your clothes are really pretty and your hair is very neat. You look like a real prince, but you are a bum.’"The Paper Bag Princess, Robert Munsch "'Why did you do all this for me?' he asked. 'I don't deserve it. I've never done anything for you.’ 'You have been my friend,' replied Charlotte. 'That in itself is a tremendous thing.'"Charlotte’s Web, E.B. White "The moon is high. The sea is deep. They rock and rock and rock to sleep."The Going to Bed Book, Sandra Boynton Which ones do you love?

Heather Dixon is a copywriter at Mabel's Labels, a runner, a wife and a Mummy to three highly-advanced little girls (according to her husband and her). Having three wee ones has made her realize many things, including how horrible her singing voice is, how fun random kitchen dance parties are, and how lucky she is to have her own Mummy living close by.

She is known as many things: Pumpkin Seed, Mummy, Hunner and - unfortunately - Booger McFats. (She has an older brother).

If she's not tidying up the kitchen, doing laundry, or on the floor playing 'horsey' for the 8 millionth time, you might find her curled up in bed with a good book (preferrably Judy Blume). Bliss.
