I love shoes. Shoes must be the most fun of all the utilitarian pieces of clothing. A great pair of shoes can really complete an outfit and lift your spirits. The trick is finding shoes that suit your lifestyle, budget, AND fashion sense. I want my summer shoes to complement my favourite breezy outfits, but I also want to be able to walk to the playground without agony. Here are my picks for the hottest summer shoes that are also practical for living the mom-life.
Slides
Slides are among the hottest shoes of the season, and for good reason: they look great and they are easy to slide (duh) on and off. This is important because we moms always have our hands full! I love these by Skechers. Comfortable AND blingy – how can you possibly go wrong?
Patterns
I love Toms as a company because of their philanthropic nature, but I love their shoes just for being adorable. These flats are comfy and go perfectly with jeans or capri pants. I love this floral design, but if flowers are not your thing, they have many patterns to choose from.
Gladiators
I remember this style from the summer I was 16. Whew! That’s a blast from the past. Gladiators are very on point right now, so channel your inner Russell Crowe and tie these babies up!
Espadrilles
If a deep, abiding love of espadrilles is wrong, I don’t want to be right. They are the perfect summer shoe for a night on the town, a backyard barbeque, or wine night with the girls. I love these for the comfort and for the sweet macrame detailing that reminds me of the macrame owls of my childhood.
Mary Janes
To me, Mary Janes are always in style – a comfortable shoe that can take you to the playground and back, styling the whole time. Perfect with a sundress or jeans, Mary Janes can see you through the whole summer.
Crochet Detailing
These shoes have the three C’s for summer: cool, comfortable, and cute. Just slip them on and run out the door! This is a perfect shoe for those days you’re on your feet a lot, and they are very versatile so they are a great travel shoe.
Sneaks
The ultimate in comfort, Chuck Taylors cannot be beaten. They come in so many colours, but I think a pop of red would be fun. This feels like a nice throwback to my youth; but instead of pairing these with slouch socks I think I’ll stick with bare feet. Just don’t forget the baby powder to freshen things up later!
