Kid-Friendly Activities For New Year's Day

Start the year Off On The Right Foot

things to do on new years day

Many of us go out on New Year’s Eve but even if you stay home, whether due to lack of babysitter or lack of motivation, it’s still a late night. Which means the first day of the year can make for a very loooong day, especially if a hangover is involved. Not to mention kids who have had too much excitement and too little sleep.

So if you’re a parent who’s desperately trying to get through the first day of the year without losing your cool and/or possibly your lunch here are five ways to spend New Year’s Day.

Museums
The people who own museums are smart. They know that desperate times call for desperate measures which is why many museums are open New Year’s day. What better way to spend the day than wandering around a museum.

And stopping at the benches to sit down and relax.

Possibly nap.

Afternoon Movie
It’s a simple way to get out of the house and break up the day. ‘Nuff said.

PJ Day
Your kids will love this and have no idea you just don’t have the energy to get dressed.  You can add to the fun by watching movies snuggled on the couch complete with favourite stuffed animals, pillows and blankets. Throw in breakfast for dinner and they may just name you the greatest parent ever.

Potluck Brunch
By having a brunch, it gives you time to sleep in and because people are bringing food you don’t have to spend a lot of time cooking. Not to mention it’s a great excuse to drink mimosas.

What?

Some of you will have a hangover, I can guarantee it. The mimosa will help.

Snow Day
Today is an ideal day to go sledding or build a snowman. The brisk, fresh air and a snowball to the face will wake you right up!  While the getting off the couch and going outside may be difficult, once you’re there the kids will burn off energy and you’ll feel good. Seriously.  Follow up with a cuppa hot chocolate and you have yourself a new New Year's Day tradition.
