“The classically-trained Barry has a pure and ethereal voice (Enya is a reference point) that frames emotionally eloquent compositions that dig deep lyrically and feature adventurous arrangements.” ~Kerry Doole, New Canadian Music
Earlier this year Toronto indie singer/songwriter Monique Barry released her 4th album, called 'Wake', and she's off to a great start, with her track 'Forgive Me' being added to the in-store playlist at Chapters/Indigo stores across Canada.
You'll be hearing the name Kate Morgan a lot on the radio this month...she's the super talented Canadian indie artist that was chosen as the Bell Media Emerging Artist for April 2013.
The single you'll be hearing is 'Boys With Girlfriends'. It's pop song perfection that'll have you singing along after the first listen...and her sound will have you thinking Natasha Bedingfield, Colbie Callait.
There's a new indie band from Kansas City by the name of We Are Voices that I currently have on repeat on Soundcloud.
The group just released their sophomore album, Tread Lightly. The first single "Fighting Fires" is a fantastic rock single (think hints of Coldplay) with lots of mass appeal.
I'm thinking that this release may just end up on my 'favourite albums of the year' list.
My latest favourite timewaster on my iPhone* and Facebook is SongPop.
Think Jeopardy but in musical notes.
It's a song clip challenge game where you compete against friends and see who can guess the song in the shortest amount of time. There are a ton of playlists (and thousands of songs) to choose from...ranging from current hits, modern rap, classic '70s, the '80s, cover songs, musicals and classic country. The bonus is that you can continue the games on either Facebook or your iPhone.
In 2009, Spencer Miles—frontman, bassist, and New Jersey native—quit his job, left the band he was in, and packed up to follow his girlfriend to London despite not knowing where he would live, if he would find a job, nor ever having visited the city before. Once he arrived, Miles fortuitously met drummer Billy Hawkes and guitarist Tom Welch.
Yesterday on Twitter, Eric Alper tweeted this . . .
@ThatEricAlper Green Day's Billie Joe Armstrong played Mark Zuckerberg's wedding. If you could have any musician play at your wedding, who would it be?
Needless to say, it got my attention and got me thinking. Hmmmm.....
