One year ago, on May 17th, Celebriteasewas introduced to you, the wonderful YMC community. I didn't know what to expect when I came on board besides having fun writing about stuff I like and sharing interesting news and tidbits with you. In the last year, my wonderful husband changed jobs, I got pregnant, and my hair changed about 15 times. I also learned a lot, interacted with wonderful parents and have made new friends through this blog.
Over the last few weeks, Toopy and Binou and The Marshmallow Moon has been touring Canada. The show is a fun little live-action romp with T&B running all over the place — from their fishbowl, to the moon and back in search of a song for Toopy to sing for his friend Binoo. We got a package of tickets through American Express Delights, not knowing what to expect and having one of the best days out with kids I've had ever.
Rupaul's Drag Race just ended its 5th season and I'm more hooked than I ever have been. From Alaska's high-pitched HIEEE yell to Jinkx Monsoon's vintage-inspired looks...wait. You've never seen Drag Race? Oh my word.
Nearly every night around Henry’s bed time, I get my popcorn ready, grab a cup of peppermint tea and I spend some quality alone time while Matt gets a little shut eye before his graveyard shift (5 nights a week, in fact). So you’d think I would have this TV/Movie thing down by now, right? Nope. I turn on the same subscription thing we’ve got and watch either a documentary or a few episodes of a show. That’s it.
Last week, actress Jessica Alba publicly admitted that in order to "quickly" loose weight after having her second child, she decided that her best course of action was to use a double-corset, tightly attached to her body for 3 full months. 24/7. For 90 days. Not only did she do that for real, she admits to it.
Today, a girlfriend and I decided it was imperative that we check out the new Target near us in Toronto. I had yet to go, and Henry, as per usual, had grown out of shoes in 3 months. He was down to a pair of flip flops that I ordered online one size up and rain boots, so, as part of our "day of epic adventure" (more on that another time), we headed to pick up "Aunt Mel" and went over to the store. Obviously, I found a few cute little things for myself, so did Mel, and when it came time for us to get shoes for H, he immediately asked for the Thomas ones.
I don't try and hide my love of zombies. Something about the insatiable thirst for flesh, the shambling (or fast runs, depending on the film), the cultural significance. I love every gory moment of classic zombie films. And what's more classic than Night of the Living Dead? I'd probably argue that nothing even comes remotely close. And I'm not the only person who feels that way.
In "gee, he's a really great guy" news, actor Bradley Cooper has been spending time over the last few weeks visiting with people who were injured during the horrific Boston Marathon attack a week ago. A mother and daughter, Celeste and Sydney Corcoran, were both seriously injured in the blasts; Celeste (mum) lost both legs below the knees and Sydney has severe injuries all over her body from being hit with shrapnel. The women are lucky, and grateful to be alive.
In the "I can't believe it" files: Reese Witherspoon and her husband, Jim Toth got pulled over last night in Atlanta because a police officer said that the car husband Toth was driving, was swerving in and out of traffic. Allegedly, Toth looked and smelled horrible and the officer decided to give him a feild sobriety test. While this was going on, Reese got "mouthy" and after the officer told her to, "sit on (her) butt and be quiet," she got very unfriendly.
This week, Tori Spelling debuts her 45lb post-baby weight loss in US Magazine. In the corresponding article, she talks about her unplanned fourth pregnancy, the placenta previa which caused bed rest and her (gasp) 30lb weight gain. While I won't deny the woman had a tough pregnancy and her delivery was followed up by emergency surgery less than a month after baby Finn was born, I am sick to absolute death of how mothers are being portrayed in the media these days.
With all the craziness going on these days, it's hard to be able to control what our kids are being exposed to online. They have to sift through a lot of the stuff we'd rather they not see — especially tweens and teens with the ability to surf online without mum and dad looking over their shoulder, or locking down the computer. And this past weekend, Lionsgate films released the new trailer for The Hunger Games: Catching Fire during the MTV Movie awards.
We all know Drea de Matteo. Whether from her role as Adriana on The Sopranos, or as Wendy on Sons of Anarchy, Drea has played bad girls in tough situations for years. But that seems to be changing for her. In her new role on Lifetime's Stalkers, she plays a tough detective named Dianne Harkin. The movie, airing on Lifetime this Saturday, was written by Rhonda Saunders, one of the first people to work to pass stalking legistlation in the state of California many years ago.
Riding on the heels of the uber-super-duper successful film adaptation of the stage play, Les Miserables is set to return to the Toronto stage this fall as part of the 2013-2014 Mirvish theatre season and they're looking for actors to play Gavroche and Young Cosette. For those of you familiar with the musical, you know these are both some powerhouse vocal performances and integral to the show...so, if you know of a boy or a girl with serious chops, this weekend is your chance!
Mad Men is set to premiere on AMC this Sunday, April 7th, and around here, we're pretty jazzed. This is the show that started it all for the small cable station that eventually brought us Breaking Bad and The Walking Dead. But the network would be nowhere without the story of Don Draper and Sterling (Draper) Cooper (Pryce).
So, a week or two ago, I blogged about Kim Kardashian and her seemingly difficult time embracing her pregnancy. Boy, I was wrong. I talked about how I didn't understand how she could feel so uncomfortable in her own skin and not just embrace her body and the beauty that comes along with pregnancy. Then, I started noticing magazine covers on line at the grocery store. It was like they were jumping out at me.
Ah Amy Poehler. She's funny, she's witty. She writes and stars in her own TV show, and she's best friends with my other absolute favourite person in Hollywood — Tina Fey. What you may not know about Amy, though, is that she has taken the time over the last year or so to create a web series called Ask Amy as part of her YouTube Smart Girls Channel.
Last week, after reading Tanya Enberg's post Goodbye Rock n' Roll, Hello Children's Songs, I commented about a 'kids' album that I actually really love and realized that so many new parents are probably driving themselves batty, bored to tears over Toopy and Binou, ripping their hair out to The Wiggles and ready to run screaming into a burning building every time they hear Barney.
I realized today that I really want to check out Sons of Anarchy and have been meaning to watch it for quite some time, except I just never did. So, tonight, I'm going to plop down and check out the first episode or two. And in deciding to watch SoA, I thought about all the great shows I recommend to people to check out all the time, and thought I'd share some of my favourites with you.
It seems like I can't get enough of Kim Kardashian. Between her reality show, her relationship with Kanye West, and her current fashion choices, I just can't look away. Kim's close to 6 months pregnant, and, well, her wardrobe seems....uncomfortable? I think Kim's body is beautiful, and she's pretty gorgeous, but lately, I'm starting to wonder if this whole pregnancy thing isn't getting the best of her mentally.
