When I learned to drive, the instructor gave me a little pocket card and told me to keep it with me in case of an accident. The card sat in my glove compartment, but when I was rear-ended it never crossed my mind to use it. Too much happened too quickly and there were so many accident details to remember.
Imagine your teenagers out on the roads this winter and ends up in the same situation. Will they remember to ask the important questions? Will they remember to write down the exact location of the accident? Will they know the right people to call?
CARSTAR Automotive Canada recently launched its free Unhappen My Accident app for iPhone. The app is convenient and innovative and it helps ensure that if you are in an automobile accident that you are equipped with all the information, tips, and tools needed to record critical accident information.
The app offers simple-to-use information, including helpful reminders to make sure you are safely on the side of the road, to stay calm and call 911 if injured. The app walks you through a simple step-by-step process for getting everything documented, and makes sure you’re ready when it’s time to call your insurance company.
Adding all of your personal information
Simply pre-load the app with important information—insurance details, vehicle description, and emergency contact numbers and emails. This information is critical to have on-hand anyway, even if you never get into an accident.
What you do if you’re in an accident
In case of accident, click on the Unhappen My Accident button and the app will walk you through the process of how to deal with the collision aftermath.
Accident Tips. This section provides useful information, such as “don’t sign anything at the accident scene” and “don’t apologize to the other driver. This admits fault.”
Record Accident Info. This allows you to enter notes and photos about the accident. The app allows you to enter:
Where Am I? This uses the iPhone’s location services to pinpoint where the accident occurred. I can tell you from experience that if you are in an accident, your insurance company will ask you many times the exact location of where it happened, including the number of lanes, what direction you were going. Having the precise information mapped out for you couldn’t make it any easier.
If you have all the information collected, you can click on Call CARSTAR Care Centre and it will connect you to CARSTAR’s 24/7 assistance line. Having all of the information available in the app will make it easy for them to come pick you and your vehicle up if needed.
Once the adrenaline has slowed down, you’ll want to call your insurance company. Now that you have all of the accident information stored, it’s easy to retrieve and email directly to your insurance provider.
This is a great app, and a great one to have installed on all the iPhones of all of the drivers in your house. I suggest installing it today, and sitting with your teens and walking through how to use it so that in the event of an accident, they’ll be prepared to document everything.
