I first starting recording bands, giving people the impression I was an engineer, simply because I’d spent my college tuition on recording equipment. ~Lovett

You know when you come across one of those songs that makes you want to pick up a hair brush and start belting out the lyrics...all while imagining your singing on stage? Like total rock star moment?
Well that's 'Break Me' by Alexx Calise. It also reminds me of a certain somebody I may or may not have dated. But I digress.
So two years ago I came across the band of brothers from Florida by the name of 'Boyce Avenue' after searching for the Rihanna 'Umbrella' video on YouTube. I was instantly hooked on their cover of 'Umbrella' and I've been following them ever since.
After a week filled with lackluster 'overly pitchy, not feeling it' performances on Amercian Idol and a really heinous song making the YouTube rounds a miilion times over...(FYI: I will unfriend and unfollow anyone who buys this song on iTunes...cross my heart).
"At 21, Mayfield looks like an ingénue but sings like a worldly-wise veteran, picking apart relationships with the sly eroticism of someone who's lived a little." ~Rolling Stone
Jessica Lea Mayfield is a singer/songwriter from Kent, Ohio who is turning heads with her stripped down raw country meets folk rock meets indie musical vibe.
This past summer my family and I took our very first road trip, followed quickly by a second - we like to live dangerously. Suitcases, snacks, bags, books and toys packed, we hit the open road with two very long drives ahead of us.
There was the usual excitement and anticipation in the air of adventures but as I got comfortable in the passenger seat tuned into my favourite satellite radio station, it started.

Funny, witty and upbeat with a touch sass is the perfect description for Canada's Juno Awards winners, the Good Lovelies.
How the Good Lovelies (Caroline Brooks, Kerri Ough and Sue Passmore) got together is a bit of a mystery: Sue remembers meeting her band mates during a limbo competition, Caroline thinks they met at a chess tournament, but Kerri is convinced they first crossed paths during a bar fight...
So Lady Gaga is back in all her artistic glory with her latest video for 'Born This Way'.
It's Gaga in all her creative fierceness - coming in at just over 7 minutes long.
I could have done without the multiple birthing shots in the video (I won't be looking at egg whites for a while) but I digress.
And at the end there is a close-up shot of Lady Gaga face with that Madonna-esque gap in between her teeth, an homage to the Material Girl? Perhaps. I mean everyone IS comparing the song to Madonna's 'Express Yourself'.
After spending the last few years writing, co-writing, raising a baby into a toddler and being inspired by her surroundings in Main Street neighbourhood in Vancouver, Jennifer Hershman wound up making a record of her very own with producer Joe Cruz, “It came about quite organically, actually, which is the essence of how we wanted to capture the songs on the EP, Joe was quite taken by the songs that I had demo-d, and thought we could string them to life with a talented band”.
