Canada Day Family Film Fun

Kicking Off Summer Vacation

Summer Vacation two words that strike fear into the hearts of many parents – myself included.

But it’s almost worse for those of us ‘work from home’ types, because our entire world is thrown for a loop as soon as that final school bell rings. Sure, there’s summer camps and playdates, but those typically come with either a hefty price tag that not all of us can afford, or a house full of rowdy kids that don’t even belong to us.  And if you’re lucky enough for your child to be invited for a playdate you end up trying to jam as many chores into those precious few hours that you have of alone time.

This year, the end of school happens to coincide with Canada Day – which means that not only do I have a house full of crazy kids who are super excited that school is over, but I have the first long weekend of the summer where I need to try to plan some activities that not only the kids will enjoy, but that I will too.  Because while the kids like to party all day, on Canada Day I like to be able to enjoy the night-time festivities and maybe even catch a firework or two.

Enter TELETOON, which just happens to be premiering Dr. Dolittle on their TELETOON Retro Big Ticket Movie on July 1st.

This is making my long weekend much easier, because after I take my kids out all day to enjoy not only their first official day of summer vacation but the birthday of our great country, I get to put on a great movie that they’ll all enjoy so that they can relax a little before the neighbourhood fireworks are set to go off.  I mean, who doesn’t love Eddie Murphy talking to animals? And the best part is that while they’re watching their movie my husband and I will be able to enjoy a nice libation on the deck without summer vacation crazy kids running all around.  Once the movie is over we can all gather to watch the light show together.  It’s kind of perfect actually.

So if you’re hoping to watch some Canada Day fireworks with your children this holiday weekend but aren’t sure how you’re going to be able to keep them from running themselves ragged before they start, turn on TELETOON and let the kids relax and enjoy a great family movie while they wait.  And don’t forget to tune into TELETOON the entire long weekend for more fun family movies and summer-themed episodes from favourite classic cartoon series.

Happy Summer Vacation everyone!
