Ever since I was little my Christmas morning breakfast has included what we've always called "Grandma's Christmas Morning Strata." I've later learned that it's my Grandmother's version of the Good Old Fashioned Christmas Morning Wife Saver.
In our house, Christmas morning has always been accompanied by a bottle of Homemade Baileys Irish Cream for the coffee and a pitcher of Mimosas. While the typical Mimosa is one part orange juice and one part sparkling wine, this Christmas Morning Mimosa adds a little seasonal flavour to make the perfect present opening beverage.
Every year, we host a Christmas party for my now-ten-year-old daughter and her friends. This year she asked if they could go caroling in the neighbourhood, then come back to our house for hot chocolate and treats. It sounded like a pretty reasonable request, only with the weather we've been having, I knew the hot chocolate would need to be ready, waiting, and hot as soon as they walked in the door from their caroling adventures.
It's that time of year again. The time of year when we've stuffed ourselves as much as we possibly can with holiday turkey and all the fixings and now we just want to eat something other than turkey sandwiches and more re-heated turkey.
Scalloped potatoes are among my favourite kind of potatoes and are the best starchy side dish to ham. While I admit this side dish takes a bit more effort than your typical Canned Soup Mom recipe, I promise this is a simplified version and because these potatoes always taste better the next day you can make them the night before.
Last week I spent a few early morning hours in my son’s Kindergarten class with eight other moms. We were in charge of baking 7 apple crisps with groups totaling 28 Kindergartners. It was a fun morning and as a work-outside-the-home mom I treasure the times I can re-work my schedule to see my son’s face light up when I walk into his classroom to volunteer.
My kids and my husband love apple pie but usually the last thing I want to do is spend what feels like hours in the kitchen peeling and slicing apples. That's why I love this recipe. It has all the taste of an apple pie with less than an 1/8th of the work!
