Back it Up! 3 Easy Ways To Save Computer Files NOW

We prepare for almost every bad scenario in our lives these days. Car insurance. Home insurance. Health insurance. Dental. Yet, for some reason, I often hear stories from friends and acquaintances who lost all of their precious photos, articles, or even much needed information due to equipment failure, technological glitches, and mother nature.

We all know we should be backing up our files regularly, but just like with most things these days, if we can't automate it, it's probably not getting done, is it? Think about everything stored on your computer right now. Do you have copies of them anywhere else? How would you feel if they disappeared in a second with no hope of coming back?

Yeah, it'd be a pretty big bummer, wouldn't it?

So for that reason and more, here are Three Ways You Can Back Up Your Files Today:

1. Put It In The Cloud (Google Drive, iCloud, Dropbox, etc.)

Although having a hard copy of every picture and important file would be nice, it seems impractical these days. There are a variety of services available to us now at incredibly low costs, or even free, like with Google Drive. The only thing better than having a safe place to put all of your most treasured memories and information is having a place to put it that you can access from anywhere!

2. Store It In An External Hard Drive

When it comes to computers, they really do come in all shapes and sizes these days. You can get one that has more storage than you could ever need, or you can get one that is as light and airy as they come. Adding an external or portable hard drive to your tech haul is a great way to ensure your files are kept safe at all times.

3. Burn It On A DVD

Maybe it's a more "old school" solution to the problem, but saving important documents and photos to a DVD ensures that no matter what might happen to your hardware over the years, you'll always be able to access those files that are most important to you. Sure you'll have to carry around one of those ugly DVD cases from time to time, but it'll be so worth it to see those pics of your daughter from her first day of kindergarten again down the road.

If you really want to protect yourself and your precious files, do all three! What do you think is the best way to store your most precious pictures and memories?

New Tech On The Block: Should You Get The Three Cents App?

With literally hundreds of thousands of apps in the App Store and thousands of games, tech gadgets, and attention-grabbers on the market, sometimes it can be hard to make a good, or even informed buying decision.

Most online stores and even the App Store give front-page views and downloads priority placement ad space. It can be hard to stumble onto cool new apps or make time to try new ones. But don't worry, I have a solution for that! Since I waste an abundance of time trying out new apps that will soon be forgotten, I will happily share my excitement, experiences and app-fails with you along the way!

If you have a suggestion for an application you'd like me to download and review, leave it in the comments below!

Today's New Tech On The Block Is: Three Cents — a FREE iPhone application that allows users to create polls and get quick answers.

Click, Click, Click: Although I've tried out other question and answer-type sites before, something about the clean lines and the overall look of ThreeCents made me want to download it. As a blogger, a social media specialist and a digital marketing nerd, I think I'm always pretty intrigued by applications or devices that allow me to dig deeper into people's likes and dislikes. Especially when you're doing market research!

Lights, Camera, Action!: Getting used to the app interface was nice. I liked that I could connect the app through Facebook and Twitter, but I didn't like that I had to make a new account specifically for the application. A seamless sign up with a social media site would've been helpful.

Where Do I Go From Here: I know in the beginning there was a "Learn More" option, which if you're anything like me you skip over to dig deep into the app and then regret it later when you are having trouble deciding how to make it work most effectively. (Note To Self: Go through the app tutorials, even if they seem dumb and obvious!)

Hangin' Tough: This app is good, but it feels a lot like it's trying to mesh somewhere between Jelly and Twitter. I like the way Jelly brings up information more than this app, it feels more natural and exciting. I think with Three Cents I have to dig deeper to find questions that I want to answer instead of just answering what comes my way. If there were less options on display maybe that'd be different.

The Right Stuff: All in all I'm enjoying using the app. Ironically enough I've had more of a response posting outside of the app than I have natively on it. I think it could be a great tool for companies to do for a mass-consensus market research tool, but also to make the voice of the customers feel heard a little more. I can also see it being used well for basic questions around certain areas.

Call It What You Want: My overall rating? 3/5 New Kids and a serious case of stage fright.
