Sometimes, plain yogurt is boring. I also find that it can get expensive to buy all those single serving sized yogurts. Try buying a large container of yogurt and then layering it up with fruit to make a parfait. This time of year you have all kinds of fruit at your disposal, but you can also use frozen berries which will not only help keep the yogurt cold, but will thaw by lunch time. Include a little container of granola or crunchy cereal to sprinkle on top and add a little texture. Stay away from using fruit like pears, apples, and bananas as they will likely go brown too quickly. You can experiment with all different flavor combinations, and get the kids to make their own!
Some combinations to try:
Blueberries
Strawberries
Blackberries
layered with lemon yogurt
Sliced mango
kiwi
pineapple
layered with coconut yogurt
raspberries
blueberries
layered with cherry yogurt
peaches(dip in lemon juice)
raspberries
layered with vanilla yogurt
Place a small amount of fruit in the bottom of a container. Cover with yogurt.
Add more fruit on top of the yogurt. Not a lot, just enough to cover it. Cover with more yogurt.
Top with a last bit of fruit. Leave room to toss some crunchy granola on top, or even some cheerios for texture.
