Fitbit Flex
I received a Fitbit Flex for my birthday last year.
Those who know me know how funny this is, since the only time I break a sweat is when a bear unexpectedly pops up at the edge of my driveway. Still, since I had been curious about how much I was moving around each day (when I wasn't sitting behind my computer), it was the perfect gift for me.
The sleek and comfy little wrist band tracks steps, distance, calories burned, active minutes and sleep. You can sync it with a computer or device and check your daily progress online.
Once I got over trying to reach a daily "holy grail" goal of 10,000 steps, I realized I could (and should) instead focus on active minutes. Now I aim for 30 minutes a day and often exceed that number without even trying. Plus, when I wear it I can pretend to be athletic, like Gabrielle Reese.
It's helped me to feel good about how much activity I'm actually getting every day, (often just around the house or by running errands), and it's especially helpful for tracking my steps after I've devoured an entire Crunchie bar before 11am.
This is the perfect gift to give. Except you might not WANT to give your flying f*ck remote controlled helicopter away (really, who would?). So still, maybe no flying f#cks to give. And in reality, this copter is not blurred out.
Yes, I have the humor of a teenager sometimes. But really, once you got all the essentials in life, the best thing to spend your money on are the things that make you happy, even if they're for really juvenile reasons.
I haven't used my iPod or old iPhone 4 in years, and yet I am hanging on to them for the sake of the music playlists they contain and this Bose sound system. It's light, can be used plug-in OR on-the-go, as it charges when plugged in. I can even stay up past 11pm (I am a trooper) and this thing hasn't died on me once before I was ready to call it a night - the battery life is that good. Plus, it charges my old phone in case I want to make any calls in 2008!
The sound quality took me by surprise; a rich, mellow quality with no feedback from such a small unit surprised me. Worth the $250.00 price tag, hands down.
