What Is Love?

I Never Knew How Powerful An Emotion It Could Be

This is one article that evoked a great deal of emotion in me all the while writing it…how can you smile from ear to ear, get angry, feel hurt and cry uncontrollably all in a small space of time? Well, I certainly did…and it didn’t even matter that I got those ‘hormonal’ stares from the hubby.

Having collected a husband, four kids and one family pet over the past few years, the definition of love has certainly changed for me; I like to call it my evolution of love.  Here’s my story…

Love reminds me of a vine, if it’s left unattended and ignored it’ll wither away, you won’t get a chance to see her flowers blossom throughout the seasons, however, if that vine is nurtured it’ll just grow…and grow…and grow some more, there are no limitations or boundaries to that growth.

Love is transitional, remember when you were totally infatuated with that special someone? That nervous feeling you got in the pit of your tummy all the way down to your toes whenever they entered the room? I never knew that infatuation could ever evolve into what I feel today for my best friend of over twenty years.

Could I possibly have even more love to give (and let me add time and energy)?  I never knew that with the birth of each one of my children I could have that much more love to give, still working on the time and energy thing!

I never knew love could hurt that much! Watching your little one in pain and not being able to take that hurt away forever, knowing you’d switch places with them in the blink of an eye, no questions asked.

I never knew I could forget exactly how much I loved someone I haven’t seen in quite sometime until I see them again and it’s as though they never left.

Having said all that, I decided to share my newfound interest on this funny thing called “love” with a few of  my closest girlfriends, I asked them what love really meant to them, the responses were all hilarious, thought evoking and emotional.

Love transcends in endless ways for many of us…

It has no boundaries or limitations…no age, size or colour.

It’s that knowingly gentle touch, holding hands or that simple smile that says it all.

It’s taking the time to stop and look at some awesome bugs your little one points out to you on your way to school.

It’ that familiar look you give someone that says “I’m here for you and I’m not going anywhere!”

Love is listening with a non-judgmental and supportive ear just when someone needs to be heard.

It’s that uncontrollable yet undeniable feeling of falling head over heels for someone.

It’s being able to take care of those near and dear to you

Love is empowering, never-ending and encompassing, and after all these years I am so glad I can now say…”I sure am glad I know now, what I didn’t know then….”
