Jill Of All Trades

Christmas is coming and you're looking forward to getting down and dirty? Tell your husband to forget the dusty perfume sampler on drugstore shelf behind the cashier. Instead here are a few gift suggestions your hubby will be more than happy to pick up for you (and you'll actually use):

Bosch 12v Max Pocket Driver cordless drill
Great for putting up shelves, fixing loose screws on furniture, or just opening the battery compartment of your child's gaming device. This is a small size drill that's light enough to use one-handed over head. It has a built in light for dark corners and and a magnetic universal quick change chuck (the part that holds the drill bit). The quick change chuck is my favourite because you don't need a key and super arm strength to change the bit, just pull back and pop it out.

Ironclad Tuff Chix work gloves
Even if you're just hanging a picture, you should protect your hands from nicks and scrapes and callous. Forget using your husbands ill-fitted gloves; get something that fits properly and looks stylish (this one's on my wish list)

Stanley 7" Wonder Bar II Pry Bar
Perfect for removing nails, prying open stuck windows, or removing old wood trim. I love the size of this tool; it's so compact. You're not wielding around a huge crowbar just to get a picture nail out of the wail. The two different prying angles come in handy too (flat or upright); this has been a great help in renovating and removing old wood. It's a size that even my kids can use it.

Lee Valley Magnogrip Magnetic Wrist Nail Holder
Forget holding screws or nails in your mouth, this magnetic wrist strap enables you to have your nails and screws at your fingertips. The Velcro strap makes it easy to adjust to various wrist sizes, so you can even lend it to your hubby (if he promises on the TV's life to return it).

Charm and Hammer coloured tool belt
Forget the countless trips to the toolbox: more nails, different drill bit, wonder bar, level and so on. Keep everything you need near you in a totally funky tool belt. And if your hubby has a problem with pink, he can order it online (also a wish list favourite).

Now you're ready to get down and dirty in style for your next home renovation. Just ask any man, nothing is sexier than a woman using tools. And what you do wearing your new tool belt after your work is done is between you and your husband.

With a background in advertising, Carrie Anne Badov left the agency life to spend more time with her three energetic and active kids (age 6, 4, & 21 months). At home in Toronto she works for advertising agencies testing their Client’s online communications; a cool job, according to her kids, especially when games are involved. Carrie Anne volunteers at her children’s school and when time allows she works on her children’s story ideas in the hopes of some day seeing one of them published. She is very fortunate to have a deliciously, wonderful hubby that supports and understands her and gives amazing back rubs.
