6 Amazing Things You May Not Know About Babies

All babies (even yours!) have these things in common!

6 Amazing Things You May Not Know About Babies

People say babies only do three things: eat, sleep, and poop! However, scientists (and I may be using the term "scientists" loosely), are getting closer to finding out that babies do, in fact, do other things — amazing other things!

I have an eight-week-old son and he is pretty perfect. He has eating, sleeping, and pooping mastered! However, he also some other pretty amazing skills that I had no idea babies were capable of, until “science” confirmed them for me!

1. Babies are 90% urine

Babies are tiny, so how much pee could they really have in those small bodies? Well, they have a lot! Gallons it seems. Whenever I change my son, the second I take off his diaper, he pees! Even if his diaper is full, there’s somehow more. And it’s pretty amazing that he can hit his overpriced glider every time (so I can never re-sell it!).

2. They make amazing sounds

Their coos are so adorable. Their sighs are to die for. Their gibberish is so addictive to converse with, and their giggles can bring a tear to your eye. Even when your little one is sleeping, he snores, snorts, and sounds like he has possibly opened a portal to the underworld. My guy has the possessed doll giggle down when he is sleeping. Does that sounds terrifying? It is. And don’t think it hasn’t crossed my mind that my baby is some sort of gatekeeper to a land of trolls (but an adorable gatekeeper).

3. Babies are the best to hug and snuggle with

Babies are amazing to hug and cuddle with...and I'm not just talking about my baby! Before I had my son, I would only hug people to say hello or goodbye. Never in a million years did I think I would become addicted to hugs. I could stay in all day just hugging my son. Not only is it extremely beneficial for you, it also does wonders for your baby's development. Because of the benefits hugging new babies can provide, especially babies in the NICU, Huggies created the No Baby Unhugged initiative so they could help set up more Baby Hugging programs in hospitals across Canada. You can show your support for the program by becoming a No Baby Unhugged mom and even get free Huggies diapers for your newborn!

4. They motivate you to get out of the house

You will be playing with your little one, gazing into his eyes, smiling and laughing and then suddenly, he will stop and look behind you with an expression of pure horror. You will turn around and see...nothing. Clearly there is a ghost lurking behind you. The only thing more terrifying than the look on your baby's faces is the look on yours. This is a great time to get out, grab a coffee, or explore your neighborhood and return when someone else is home with you.

5. They have amazing timing

Babies just know the right time for everything. From a heartwarming giggle to brighten your day to a scream to let you know when he wants to be picked up. Take my son for example, he has amazing timing (if you don’t count that he was over a week past his due date). He knows exactly when I am about to sit down to eat or drink a nice hot drink. He could be in a deep sleep and will wake up screaming to let me know he needs me at that exact second! Strangely, he never needs me when I'm making silly online purchases or when I decide to get bangs.

6. Babies don’t judge

This is truly amazing! You don’t need to wear makeup, do your hair or even shower for your baby. Many days I just use a diaper wipe to freshen up and my guy always shows unconditional love.

There are so many other things you will learn your baby can do over the time spent together. Cherish them now because you will get knocked on your butt once he starts walking!
