One problem I always had peeling and cutting up a lot of apples is that they would go brown by the time I got through a few. What to do if you want to cut up a whole pile of apples?
- Peel all the apples first. I love my Y peeler, it’s sharp and fast. Knives are not nearly as efficient. If you don’t have a Y peeler, I highly recommend one.
- Cut around the cores, as in the photo. You should have four large chunks of apple.
- Chop the chunks into smaller chunks.
How does this keep the apples from turning brown as fast? The more surface area of the fruit that is exposed to air, the quicker it will go brown. If you leave the apples in bigger pieces as long as you can, it will slow the process.
