One the best ways that we like to “keep ‘em out of trouble [1]” at momstown [2] is to do arts and crafts! With this creepy holiday around the corner, we have an endless list of cool crafts.
With pumpkins, ghouls, ghosts and bats, it was almost impossible to narrow down our favourite Halloween crafts to just 5.
momstown [3] has a handprint bat craft for everyone...great for a Halloween [4] playgroup or at home with your kids!
What you need:
- black paint
- construction paper
- googly eyes
- string for web optional—depending where you plan to decorate!
Have child paint his or her hand black (4 fingers and hand, no thumb) press on to paper, back to back so that each side has four legs and combined they have eight legs!
Add googly eyes and you've got a very cute handprint spider. If you make lots of them, you can put them up on a bulletin board, window, or door, and then use string to create a 'web' around them!
We had a blast with this craft and they actually made about 12 bats in total. We had brown bats, black bats, bats with tiny eyes and great big eyes, large ones, small ones and some with two heads and fangs. We hung them in our windows to "scare" the neighbours! :-)
What you need:
- Pillowcase or other recycled plain fabric grocery or tote bag
- paint
- glitter (optional)
- Halloween cookie cutters
- markers
Roll the open end of the pillow case a few times to make the "bag" a bit shorter. You can tape this from the inside.
Use your Halloween cookie cutters to stamp shapes onto the pillowcase. Sprinkle with glitter before the paint dries.
Once the paint has dried, add faces to your pumpkins, ghosts, or other shapes.
Take this bag along to collect candy!
Another tip would be to paint using flourescent paints. This would be great if you are planning on being out in the dark!
