Author Profile:

Misty is a freelance writer with Chickadee Creative and voice for the Ottawa blog Kids in the Capital. A part-time health researcher with the Ottawa Hospital Research Institute, Misty manages giant spreadsheets and is passionate about evidence-based medicine. A mother to two young girls and owner of one adopted pug named Moose, Misty shares her life with a beloved husband and partner-in-crime.

When she's not writing, you can find Misty out in her giant vegetable patch, in the kitchen experimenting with the latest health craze, or trying to unwind with some yoga (a good bottle of wine also does the trick!)

About my kids:
I have two girls aged 7 and 4. Living in Ottawa, we made the decision to send our kids to full French school, despite the fact that neither myself or my husband are Francophone. I went through French immersion as a child, and have passable French - enough to get by and support my kids in school. It's been a huge, fun challenge, and watching my girls become totally bilingual has been an amazing experience.
Parenting is...:
“It’s as if, having once been placentally connected to your beating heart, having once inhabited your actual body, your children continue to live there with you. For better and worse, you are never alone again. Parental love defies your apartness from another person.” - Catherine Newman
We know you don't have a lot, but when you do, what do you like to do in your spare time?:
Yoga has become an important part of my life in recent years, and I try to get to a class at least once a week (with a few at-home sessions thrown in when I have the time!) I love writing, and have a dream of one day writing a book. I used to have time to play the guitar and piano, and hoping to get back to that at some point down the road.
When are you at your yummiest?:
When I get 8 hours of unbroken sleep
If someone wrote a biography about you, what would be the title?:
I'll get back to you on this one
What's currently in your purse?:
a birthday invitation, my hospital badge, a file folder, kleenex, lip gloss, crayons, Frozen-themed Pez dispenser, keys, a pad, hair ties, glasses, wallet, pen, ear buds, garbage and crumbs.
What superhero power would you like to have?:
Time-travel
If we gave you an elephant, where would you hide it?:
In my purse...it's big enough!
