Author Profile:

Paula Roy readily admits that she’s obsessed with food. Typically, it’s the first thing she thinks of in the morning and the last of the day as well. She recognizes that not everyone shares her passion for cooking, so she channels much of her enthusiasm into creating family-friendly recipes that are easy to prepare and yield delicious results.

Although her husband and kids are eager taste testers, Paula knows she’ll eventually be paying for their therapy thanks to her constant cries of, “don’t touch that plate, I haven’t taken a photo yet!”

Paula loves to travel and explore whatever culinary treasures a destination has to offer. In addition to leading cooking classes and making frequent TV appearances, she’s also a busy freelance writer and serves as the food editor of popular style magazine Ottawa At Home. In addition to her contributions for YMC, you can also follow Paula’s edible adventures through her blog, Constantly Cooking, and keep up with her daily kitchen antics on Twitter and Instagram (@paulajroy).

About my kids:
I have an almost grownup son and daughter, both of whom are very musical and love to eat. They’re away at University and it’s ridiculous how much I miss them, even though I do get to cook and eat a lot more fish when they’re not at home.
Parenting is...:
The hardest and most rewarding job I’ve ever had. The best parenting advice I ever received was, “Good or bad, it’s a phase.” I’ve always taken that to mean that you’ve got to celebrate every time you feel you’re doing things well as a parent and cut yourself some slack when you mess up. Somehow, things almost always work out just fine.
We know you don't have a lot, but when you do, what do you like to do in your spare time?:
I love to read, knit while watching suspenseful movies and walk. Usually straight to the nearest food shop.
When are you at your yummiest?:
When the day’s writing is done, dinner is almost ready, and I’ve poured a glass of wine.
If someone wrote a biography about you, what would be the title?:
Maybe something like, “Do You Want Fries With That?” since my first professional cooking gig was at McDonald’s in high school.
What's currently in your purse?:
Eight crumpled grocery lists, my phone and its two backup batteries, three distinctly different shades of lipstick, safety pins, bandaids, sunscreen, and multiple snacks. Also the pair of socks I’m currently knitting; I pull them out when waiting in line at the grocery store. People look at me strangely but it keeps my natural impatience at bay.
What superhero power would you like to have?:
Some kind of force field that repels dust and clutter.
If we gave you an elephant, where would you hide it?:
In our double garage. Although I can’t park my minivan in there because of all the junk, perhaps I could make enough space for an elephant?
