5 Fashion Must Haves for Spring

The spring season is upon us and when a new season appears so do the must-have trends. With retail stores starting to put out their spring merchandise, the number one question I am always asked is: What trends should I invest in? Where should I spend a little bit more money?

And with so many trends this season here is a list of 5 must-haves for the spring/summer season.

Coloured jeans. Nothing says spring like a pop of colour. You might have seen a little bit of this trend last season, but this season they are back and are a sophisticated version of your daughter’s coloured jeans. Ankle-length, skinny, straight leg or even a bootcut—coloured bottoms are everywhere.  Look out for red and indigo blue as two hot colours. Subtler tones like pastel pink, aqua blue and orange, yes, orange, are big too.  Afraid of the bold or pastel colours?  You can always opt for white.

Stripes. They seem to be in fashion year after year and just like last season you can’t go wrong with wearing stripes.  Popped as a tank, tee or dress underneath your solid boyfriend jacket or cardigan.  You can even rock a full-striped little blazer, but try it with your dark denim jeans or narrow black ankle pant.  Embrace the nautical trend by sporting the trendy anchor details or by introducing the popular navy and white to your wardrobe.

Leather motorcycle jacket. I know it's spring and most people shy away from leather but the boyfriend blazer has been replaced by a cute cropped leather jacket.  More then just the typical black this spring look for coloured jackets in pastels, bright colours and even metallic.  If the bright colours are too much for you I would opt for a stunning beige or camel.  Paired back to a fabulous boho floral dress or over a faux wrap dress it’s perfect for office or weekend.

Shorts. When summer arrives so does the heat. And nothing shows off a great pair of shoes like shorts.  This season you will see both short shorts and knee toppers.  I prefer the knee length.  Look for something that is a straight to narrow leg, and stay away from too wide.  A more tailored leg is the perfect partner to a more feminine and flowy top.  Add your favourite wedge or pump and you have a chic spring look.

Nude pump. I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again—every woman should own a nude-coloured shoe.  Whether you choose to purchase a kitten heel, peep toe, wedge, gladiator pump, or a ballet flat the nude shoe is an essential. The beauty of nude is… it works with every outfit. From a white jean, to an all-black look, it is fresh and crisp for spring and will quickly become your “go-to” shoe.  Looking for more of a punch? Check out a metallic finish.
