Girl Next Door Makeup Look

Get a Fresh, Fabulous Look that is Both Polished and Sweet

I’m a makeup artist – my clientele are mostly celebrities. Here are instructions for you to recreate the gorgeous "girl next door look" we see on so many celebrities.

The key to this approachable, fresh, casual look is fabulous, sun-kissed skin.

So grab your makeup kit and let's get started!

Start by making sure your skin is exfoliated, cleansed, and moisturized!  Exfoliating brings out a lovely glow that will shine through your makeup.

Try a tinted moisturizer for your foundation… It’s more sheer, and should have an SPF.  Use your concealer brush to add concealer to any spots that need a little extra help.

You may want to consider a FACIAL self-tanning lotion (not the same one you’d use for your body!) or a cream like Benefit’s Talk to The Tan (make sure you apply to your neck as well)

If you don’t want to go that route, apply a bronzer (not too many shades darker than your skin) to the forehead, bridge of nose and upper cheeks and chin (where the sun would hit the higher plains of your face) Don’t cover your whole face in bronzer!!

Brush on a subtle bronze eyeshadow on your eyelids over your eyeshadow base (try using a bit of that bronzer!) and blend it softly upwards so it just peeks out over your eyelashes if you look straight ahead in the mirror.

Lots of mascara!!!   (Red-carpet-ready tip: try some individual false lashes on the outer edges of your eyes!  A subtle hint that packs a lot of punch…)

Blush on the apples of your cheeks (Smile at yourself in the mirror… there they are, the part Grandma used to pinch!) with a soft, natural cheek tone like NARS Orgasm or MAC Cubic. These work for most skin tones… really! However, try them on in the store to make sure you like the shade. Make sure you blend. No Raggedy Anne cheeks please!

Do an extremely soft pink lip like MAC Petting Pink Lip Conditioner (works on all skin tones), or if you like a more ‘nude’ lip, try Stila lipgloss in Banana or MAC Lipglass in Revealing (for lighter/med skintones).  If your skintone is darker, try MAC Lipglass in Oh Baby or Shock-o-late!

Now look in the mirror. Gorgeous!
