Activities While You Wait For the Delivery Guy

Chained To The House With Kids

The waiting time for our delivery guy was 8am-5pm (seriously?! what kind of modern day business has a full-day-wait-window?!). Anytime between 8am and 5pm he would arrive. No he wouldn't call an hour before showing up to confirm...he'd just be there...sometime...during the day. So the kids and I were chained to the house. What do you do to entertain the kids while you wait for the delivery guy?...

  1. Breakfast (breakfast takes minutes upon minutes of entertainment right?).
  2. Brush teeth, get dressed, change diapers (ok 15 minutes killed there).
  3. Get kids to match all the socks in the laundry basket in return for homemade scones (bribery works).
  4. Eat scones.
  5. Have the kids help you bake bran muffins (because the oven is hot and you have to make fibre your friend).
  6. Play trains.
  7. Go outside. Have 2-year-old "help you" push lawnmover to cut grass (this takes three hours). Take home phone and cell phone with you in case delivery guy calls.
  8. Play on swing set.
  9. Go inside to make lunch (15 minutes killed there).
  10. Eat lunch (5 minutes).
  11. Go outside and play on swing set again.
  12. Finally give in to big kids watching TV because toddler has to nap.
  13. Check email.
  14. Toddler up from nap.
  15. Have a snack (3 minutes).
  16. Go outside to swing set again.
  17. Look at watch...it's 5pm...no delivery guy.
  18. Cry.

So much done yet nothing done. Held captive in my own home. And the delivery guy never showed.

Grr.
