You Know You're A Working Mom When...

Amusing Things We Do To Maintain Our Professionalism

I’m a fairly “new” mummy-preneur. I run 2 businesses which is incredibly insane. I own an online retail baby store, also launching a couple of my own product lines and my trade profession as a graphic designer.

Having only launched these 2 companies within the past 2 years, I’ve narrowed my life down to 17 points. I’m sure many other mummy-preneurs can relate. Would I change a thing? No. I absolutely love doing what I’m doing and I tell every mom who wants to venture into being their own boss that if they can afford to do it, to go for it. Sure there are ups and downs, but there’s nothing like working in your own pj’s and answering to your own self.

Your healthy lunch is a slice of bread folded over with some ham stuck in between

Sending and receiving emails at 3am means nothing

Hitting the stop watch as soon as someone goes down for a nap

Don't Call. Contact by email only

Asking yourself if you really need to use the washroom or is your bladder fooling you. Same thing goes for a shower.

The post man/woman only recognizes you with your pyjamas on

You time your bookkeeping for the duration of the Wiggles show

Typing emails with one hand

Forgetting what you did a half second ago

Your suppliers know your children by their first name.

Your closet is where you make your “professional” phone calls

Assume standing position over your laptop for 10 minutes even though the chair is right beside you

Your business cards have applesauce stains

You bribe your child(ren) with candy and cookies before making a phone call

A Happymeal is a business expense

Diego is sometimes your best friend

Your blackberry is another child

Marina Duque is a mom to an almost 2 year old little squirt with 110 built in batteries. Life never stops. After maternity leave, she started her own little online babywearing store. Marina's creativity also allowed her to design and develop her own product line, nursing covers and baby blankies which can now be found in 10 retail stores. As a graphic designer by trade, Marina's other part of the day includes designing for many different clients. And of course, the better part of the day includes chasing somebody around.
