Balance Work And Kids

I am a full time stay at home mom with a booming business in the Adult Sensual Products Industry.

I have two delightful girls who are in school full time and one handful of a son who is three and consumes almost every single ounce of energy that I have daily. He is a delight, a treat, enchanting and high energy! I love him with a love that is unending…yet, he is the bane of my existence when it comes to working my home based business.

It seems that the minute the phone rings, he needs to pee, or needs a snack or juice. Often, it is in that very moment when the urge to play the Wii strikes and no amount of promises to “play in five minutes” will assuage his demands. I have to laugh. I really do, because if I don’t laugh at it, I will pull my hair out.

It is a delicate balance between being a stay at home working mom and being a working at home mom. A stay at home working mom is constantly pulled between the desire to create a dream for her family and full time parenting, while a work at home mom often has the ability to better block off time and energy for her work, or at least that seems to be the way it feels for me.

As a stay at home mom first, who then dove into a home based business, I am constantly feeling guilty for not spending time with my son when I am working, then feeling like I am letting my business and team down when I am playing Wii with my son. It is an unending tug o war.

I was listening to an online webinar about balancing the Super Mom Act and it was like the heavens opened up and a bolt of lightning shot down and full spark hit me on the head! The webinar told us moms to find something our kids loved and pull it out when the work must take priority over all the other demands of our day! In an instant, I KNEW what that “activity” must be! PLAYDOUGH!

My son LOVES playdough, more than life itself I would care to guess. He can play for hours and hours and hours, making houses, and monsters and cars and fish. His imagination knows no bounds and he can totally immerse himself in a fantasy world, surrounded by squishy friends.

When I hit on that genius idea, my business life changed, dramatically! No more did I hear the incessant whining for juice and gold fish crackers. The new music to my ears was the sound of a little boy, cheerfully chatting away to his mushy fish friends and colorful trucks. He knows when mommy says “I have an important call to make” means PLAY CLAY time and he eagerly waits by the fridge for the bucket of clay to come down.

It is an exciting moment and he jumps up and down as I pull the cookie cutters out and the funky edged clay cutters. He grins ear to ear as I place it on the table. He is in his glory and I can actually complete a 90 minute webinar without one single interruption.

Find that one thing that totally engages your child and I guarantee it will change your business!
