"Travelling for business or pleasure can be compared to the journey of life. You don't want to make either trip with too much baggage." —Anne Dimon
Whether kids are in tow or not, smart yummy mummies want to travel light and carefree with a minimum of fuss and worry, but still looking stylish.
Here are eight tips to keep you looking fashionable when traveling with a carry-on no bigger than a diaper bag:
Before leaving for any destination, check with weather.com and if the forecast calls for rain—throw in a travel-size umbrella or a lightweight raincoat. The kind that packs into its own pouch is best.
Make sure that every piece of clothing that goes into your carry-on is multi-functional—meaning it can go from morning to night—just like you.
For major pieces (dress, pants, skirt) stick with solid colours and simple styles. You can break up the monotony with colourful scarves, accessories and tops. Note to self: Scarves and big fashionable brooches are also good to hide accidental baby dribbles or stains from sticky hands.
Stick with basic colours that easily mix and match. White, black and taupe are good for summer and can be brightened up with tops and accessories in fun colours.
Because they take up so much room, shoes can be a challenge so...yes, we know it's going to be difficult...but try packing just one pair of comfy (but stylish) heels to go with everything. Faux animal skin is a good choice and so are solids such as red, copper or tan.
One fabulous belt (paired with a simple black top) can take even a pair of standard black capris or walking shorts out to dinner. Make sure belts are lightweight (chunky metal can add pounds to your carry-on, and cause embarrassing delays when going through airline security) and wrap them around the inside of the carry-on to save on space.
Don't throw an evening bag into a carry-on empty. Use it for jewelry, a scarf (or little surprises for the kids) and make sure it can double as a day-time clutch. (i.e. Avoid the sequins and go with patent).
Take along a big lightweight bag that can fold easily into a carry-on but unfold to use for shopping excursions, as a beach bag or to carry reading materials to the spa.
