How to Kickstart Your Holiday Shopping

Let Loukia Guide You Through the Holiday Shopping Season.

If you don't know me, I'm Loukia - the Shop Yummy Mummy here at the Yummy Mummy Club and I'm a shopaholic.

I live to shop, love to shop and now I'm going to be your hostess here at Get Your Shop On to guide you through the holiday shopping season.   We shopped, tested and dared to compare to come up with our one-stop shopping guide with tips and tricks to find the best gifts for the people on your list, how to stay within your budget and inspire you to make this the best holiday ever!

But before I could send you on your shopping way, I needed to do a bit of research first.  I asked moms on facebook and twitter to answer a few questions in my shopping survey to find out more about their holiday shopping habits and where they stand.  The results were really interesting.

Here's what I learned...

57% of mummies spent $400 or more on gifts
A whopping 83% of you felt it was impossible to buy for dads and husbands
(sorry guys!)
Books and gift cards were what mummies want to see in their stockings with any kind of sporting goods coming in dead last.

But here's what really blew me away....only 61% of moms surveyed set a holiday shopping budget and 18% of you who do count your dollars, end up blowing it anyway.

Which brings me to my shopping tips to help get you started - because I want you to have fun and enjoy shopping just like I do!

Plan Ahead
Ask your loved ones for suggestions about what they want then make a list. This will save you from wandering around the mall aimlessly wondering if buying your mother-in-law another "I Love Gramma" coffee mug will put you in the daughter-in-law doghouse.  With a list in hand, you can shop with confidence without breaking the bank.

Set A Budget
When you have a set budget for holiday shopping, walking into stores is a lot more fun, trust me. You'll have more time to look around without the stress and pressure of trying to figure out what to buy for each person on your list (see Plan Ahead above), and since you have a budget in mind, you'll be able to see past the items that are out of your price range.

One-Stop Shopping
Multi-tasking mummies don';t have time to waste driving from store to store to store.  Try to hit a large store that carries a multitude of items (like Walmart!). You'll be able to cover everything from stocking stuffers and toys to wrapping paper and ornaments and even holiday appetizers and snacks, getting the most bang for your buck while saving your feet (and money on gas).  And if you're having a moment of gift buying doubt (does anyone know what to buy their father-in-law?), a gift card from a store like Walmart can go a long way.

Having a plan when it comes to holiday shopping means you'll have more time to get festive with your family, listen to Christmas music, and even spend some time in front of the fire place with a hot chocolate...shot of Bailey's optional.

So grab a latte and read this slew of Get Your Shop On articles to help turn your holiday shopping panic into a joyous occasion thanks to our friends at Walmart!
