Sometimes I don’t like twitterville and the whole online scene. I get sad when I see great friendships. Not that there is anything wrong with these great friendships, it’s just that I’m not a part of them.
Let me back up for you. I used to be quite active on Twitter. I loved—and still love—the online world. The camaraderie, the laughs, the twitter parties! (The feeds on those go so fast!) There was also sadness. I remember over a year ago, when I started reading about @tjzmommy and her son Zack. I remember when another passed away. Yet another in a car accident.
I started a blog and thought about things I wanted to write about. Things that would inspire, create laughter, and maybe a few tears. I wanted to talk more about losing a child, more about caring for an ailing spouse at such a young age, more about smiling through the hard times, and much more about laughing hard through the good. I think I would have been a pretty good online presence, if I do say so myself.
Life happened though. It happens to all of us in different ways. You work more. You have less time to try and reach your passion. Your time is spent caring for children. Your time is spent rushing to a specialist appointment for your husband after work, when all you want to do is crash. Your time is playing with your child who you don’t see as much, because you have to work outside of the home full time. Your time is meeting a deadline (oh statistics, how you are the bane of my existence). Your time is playing catch in the front yard with your child at 8pm, to make up for missing their afternoon school recital, even though you have no clue which end of the baseball bat you are supposed to hold. (Side note: sports were never my forte.) Your job is demanding. Your family needs you. I stopped my blog.
I don’t begrudge anyone their time online. It is a great place. Friends, networking, and business opportunities—just to name a few of the benefits. I think I just wanted to say that if you notice someone tweet that you haven’t seen in a while, tweet back. They may have disappeared due to so many reasons. Reach out and make them feel a little less isolated in a world where voices sometimes get lost in the timeline.
