I’m a bit of an introvert who would rather binge-watch movies while eating chips and wearing sweatpants than go to a party or hang out in big groups. Because of this I don’t have a large group of friends. But the friends I do have, which can be counted on two hands, are my ‘bury the body’ friends who I can count on when sh*t gets real.
Turns out I’m in the minority because a study commissioned by HF Holidays found that out of the 2,000 people surveyed the average number of friends was 40, including 2 BFFs, 4 close pals, and 5 work buddies.
Is it just me or does 40 seem like a lot of friends? What do you even do with 40 friends? That’s a lot of birthdays to remember. And names.
While I may not have as many friends as the average person, I definitely know a few people in the categories they listed in the survey.
The Organizer who plans everything. Birthdays, dinners out, a girls’ night in, this is the person to do it.
The Motivator is the friend who pushes you out of your comfort zone. There are often curse words involved but you mostly like her for it afterwards.
The Oracle knows everything and is the person you go to when you need info. She’s the one who will know what Kombuchea is when nobody else does.
The Elephant never forgets anything, including birthdays, anniversaries, and when to pay the hydro bill. Also, insults.
The Maverick is that unreliable friend who is fun to be around and up for spur of the moment parties, but don't depend on her to turn up on time so bring a book to read while you’re waiting.
The Scrooge turns into a magician and disappears when it’s time to split a cheque.
And last but not least the Steady Eddie who is always there for you.
Personally, I feel like we’re all a mixture. I’m a Motivator, Elephant, and, Steady Eddie. But I wish I had a little more of the Maverick in me (that’s what she said).
Which friend are you?
