RECALL POSTED May 2, 2017:
From the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA): The Liquor Control Board of Ontario (LCBO) is recalling Bombay Sapphire brand London Dry Gin from the marketplace due to high alcohol content. Consumers should not consume the recalled product described below. This recall was initiated after the discovery that, during production, one batch was bottled before correct dilution to achieve the stated 40% alcohol content by volume. As a result, the affected batch has alcohol content by volume of 77%.
The CFIA says recalled products should be thrown out or returned to the store where they were purchased.
But you might want to hang onto it instead of dumping it down the drain.
The first thing we wondered... Is the alcohol content by volume an unsafe level? According to stats, vodka has a similar alcohol by volume (ABV) content, ranging above 70%. Some grain products get as high as 90%. But TYPICALLY, gin has a much lower ABV... usually around 40-50%.
So be warned: having one drink made with this gin is more like two. Talk about getting more bang for your buck.
If you have a bottle of the recalled Bombay Sapphire London Dry Gin and decide to keep it, drink it responsibly, knowing it might knock you on your butt.
