Green Beauty Alternatives

Beauty Without The Box

There are many opportunities to become more ‘green’ when it comes to beauty products other than just opting for organic. A morning routine can add up to as many as ten different products, which are accompanied by ten different packages.

When it comes to being green with beauty a simple solution is reducing the amount of packaged beauty goods we use, especially if we want to balance out the necessities in our yummy mummy lives...our concealer, lip gloss, mascara and blush just to name a few.

Here are some of my favorite green beauty alternatives:

 Instead of: Deodorant

Try: A wedge of Lemon

The lemon changes the PH Balance on your skin that prevents bacteria from growing and creating an odour. I keep a whole lemon in my fridge and slice off a wedge everyday. Works as good as any other all natural deodorant I’ve tried. I also keep an emergency slice of lemon in a small Tupperware in my bag depending on my activities and weather- I figure if I can carry an extra lipstick in my bag than why not a piece of lemon.

Instead of: Body Wash

Try: Soap Works Body Soap

I absolutely adore Soap Works Body Soap mostly because you can grab them bulk style at most retailers. And they don’t need any packaging because each type of soap is stamped with the name. They offer a full range of soaps that help with help with different skin types and conditions. I personally recommend the Sea Kelp, Aloe Vera and the Cucumber and Calendula. They even have a Shampoo & Conditioner Soap Bar.

Instead of: Face Moisturizer

Try: Coconut Oil

Although Coconut Oil still comes in a tub if you use it in the kitchen at least your avoiding one extra package. Plus it comes in bulk sizes, which facial moisturizers hardly do. Another option is Olive Oil but I find Coconut Oil absorbs better and leaves less of greasy feeling. Coconut oil has many benefits including antioxidants, which helps with premature aging and I find it evens out the skin tone and leaves the skin more radiant. It is also amazing for the growth of healthy hair and prevention of dandruff. And the best benefit of all for us yummy mummy’s is that it helps prevent lice production in our little one’s hair!
