Make This DIY Fairy Garden to Bring Magic to Your Yard

When spring hits, it’s really hard to stay focused on the same routine you have been keeping through the winter. The warm air hits and you get a desire to go outside—a desire to not be cooped up. When this happens, my family and I like to set time aside to be creative or take a little outing which involves the outdoors.

Spring also brings celebration. Not just celebration of life but celebration of mothers! My children have always loved to create things for me rather than buy something and if you’re a mother, you know exactly how much I cherish those things.

Outside of Mother’s Day and Easter, spring is gardening season. It’s when everybody starts tending to their lawns and reviving them from the harsh winter months. You have to drag the mower out for that long grass that’s started to grow. The rake will come out too in order to get rid of any extra leaves left on the ground.

In other words, spring has a little bit of everything. However, it had a lot of opportunity to come together as a family and create memories. This fairy garden is a ton of fun to make as a family or even just by yourself if you’re wanting to spice up your garden.

Most of the items we went and searched for in our yard. If you don’t have the same types of flowers growing in your yard as we did, that’s not a problem. Go out and search in your own yard for things to replace the items with.

The best part about this fairy garden is the fact that it’s so customizable. It’s also super easy to get lost in a thousand ideas for mini decorations to add. It was hard for us to stop adding but we were running out of room. Here is how we made our little fairy garden!

How to Make a Fairy Garden

Items:

Small house
6 mini flower pots
6-inch flower pot
Soil
3 colors of spray paint
2 kinds of flowers
Some handfuls of a grassy plant
Twine
Glue gun

Directions:

• Place your mini pots upside-down on a flat surface and cover them in spray paint. Two pots for each color. Allow to dry for about an hour.

• Take your larger pot and fill it with soil. Set aside.
   
• Take your house and using one type of your flowers, hot glue them along the tip of both sides of the roof.

• Hot glue your handfuls of grassy plant to cover the rest of the roof and the bottoms of the flowers. Take a couple of colorful petals from the roof flowers and sprinkle them on the grassy areas of the roof.
   
• Take your house and sit it to where the door is right up to the edge of the large pot of dirt but situated in the middle of the dirt.
   
• Fill all your mini pots with dirt and stick the second type of flower in each one. We used dandelions for this one because we loved the bright yellow color.

• Hot glue your mini flower pots around the edge of the house and larger pot. We had to play with the way they sat up there first before we found the perfect spot to glue them.
   
• For the final touch, take your twine and hold it up to the pot in front of the house where the door is. Measure from the tip of the pot about to the bottom. Cut two pieces of twine at this length.
   
• Glue both pieces of twine around the edge of the pot, leaving about one inch or a little more in between the two pieces of twine.
   
• Cut about 5-6 tiny pieces of twine and hot glue them about half an inch apart down the two pieces of twine to make a rope ladder.
