Connect With Your Intuition

Yummy or Yucky?

A Simple Tool To Connect With Your Intuition

If you had access to a resource where you could find the answer to all of your questions, you would want it, wouldn’t you? The idea is not so far-fetched. You do have that resource—it’s your intuition and it comes from within.

Intuition is a source of information that is reliable and available at your fingertips. It defies rationality or reasoning. It’s that feeling of, ”I don’t know what it is, but something is telling me…”

I like to call intuition our internal guidance system. It comes from deep inside you and its purpose is to guide you in all aspects of life. If you ever had a hunch, sense or gut feeling these are all indicators that you are accessing your intuition and it’s talking.

Our intuition gives us valuable information like, “Yes go for it.” or “No the timing is wrong.” Sometimes our intuition will nudge us to turn left when we are about to turn right or it urges us to pick up our cell phone and call a loved one who just happens to need an encouraging word at that very moment.

Our intuition knows juicy information and it’s willing to share. The problem is that many of us have a hard time figuring out what it’s trying to say.

Here’s a simple tool to help you connect with and understand your intuition.

I call it the Yummy/Yucky tool.

Reflect for a moment on something that makes you feel yummy. Maybe it’s a hot bubble bath, a glass of wine, shopping for clothes or holding a newborn baby. Think of a yummy food that you love to eat like a piece of chocolate cake with buttercream frosting. Connect with that feeling of yummy. Savour it. Know it and lock that feeling into your mind and body memory.

Now release that feeling of yummy and think of something that is yucky—scrubbing toilets, getting up at 5:00am or a trip to the dentist. Think of a food you were forced to eat as a child and still don’t like today. Something that makes you say, “Yucky.” Lock that feeling into your memory.

Now you know how yummy and yucky feel. Use these feelings as a measuring stick to determine what your intuition is telling you. The next time you find yourself needing to make a decision, assess a situation or engage with a person you are unsure about, stop. Get quiet. Check in with yourself to see if thinking of that decision, situation or person brings up the feeling of yummy or yucky.

If you feel yummy, that’s your intuition giving you the thumbs up to go for it. If you feel yucky, either it's thumbs down or your intuition is telling you to slow down, be cautious and get more information. Use the yummy/yucky method to learn the exact message.

Utilizing this simple tool is an easy way to start accessing and getting in touch with your intuition. And as you connect with your intuition on a regular basis your understanding of its messages will deepen.
