Surprise the Fam with Cinnamon Apple Cake with Cream Cheese Frosting

Make this sweet Valentine's Day Treat in just 25 minutes.

Who wouldn’t want to wake up to – or come home for – the lovely, aromatic smell of cinnamon buns? Not many! This Valentine’s Day, try this make-ahead surprise Cinnamon Apple Cake breakfast for all the little loves in your life, or if afternoon (sweet) delights are more your thing, pop it in the oven right when they’re hopping on the school bus home.

It bakes up in less than 25 minutes, so it’s a fabulous last minute surprise for any time of the day. Plus, it’s super easy to put together using Pillsbury Cinnamon Roll dough, chopped apples, some pecans (or not!), and Betty Crocker icing. This cake keeps for a few days at room temperature, but it won’t last that long!

Cinnamon Apple Cake with Cream Cheese Frosting

Ingredients:

2 pkg Cinnamon Rolls with Icing
1 tub Betty Crocker Whipped Cream Cheese frosting
2 peeled and chopped tart apples – Granny Smith or Macintosh work well
1 cup chopped pecans (these are optional, but do add an extra crunch if your family likes nuts!)
2 tbsp sugar
1 tbsp cinnamon

Directions:

  • Line a round baking pan with parchment paper. (Trace pan and cut paper to size.)

  • Open tubes of rolls (follow directions and enjoy the POP!). Separate the rolls (you’ll be using all but two of the rolls; you can reserve these and bake later if desired).

  • Press the top of each roll into the chopped nuts if using and arrange in pan with one bun in center and others surrounding. You may have to squich them a bit to fit into a 8” circle but all the gooey goodness will be worth it.

  • Top with the chopped apple and sprinkle over with cinnamon and sugar.

  • Bake at 400* for 20 – 25 minutes, checking for doneness with a toothpick in centre.

  • Let cool for 10 minutes before plating. Drizzle bun cake with melted Betty Crocker Cream Cheese frosting (remove ALL traces of foil covering, microwave for 30sec on high and stir).

  • Cut into slices or pull apart at natural break between each bun.

This delicious cinnamon-y treat pairs best with lovely company – your family.
