1 cup warm water
5 tbsp white sugar, divided
1.5 tsp active dry yeast
2 3/4 – 3 cups all-purpose flour
1.5 tsp salt
1 tsp canola oil
1/4 cup baking soda
1 large egg at room temperature
Coarse salt, for sprinkling
