Tell us all about your blog I write
Celiac Teen, which is a gluten-free blog. It's where I share stories of my life as a gluten-free teenager and recipes as well.
What inspired you to begin writing about food? I'd just been diagnosed with Celiac Disease and wanted to record the recipes I was making. That soon turned into stories of the recipes and of my life. Stories about food I loved and the moments surrounding the food. The significance of memories and traditions as well as everyday things. It became a way for me to tell my story and share the great food I was making.
Describe your favorite food memory Oh! That's a tough one. I've spent so much of my life savouring food. My first kitchen memory of making chocolate chip cookies with my mom is a fond one, but favourite? Probably learning how to make pie with my aunt and cousin. We spent the afternoon in my grandma's cottage, huddled at the small counter as they taught me all the steps. To this day, pie is my favourite thing to bake, and it all started on that summer afternoon a decade ago.
Cook or bake-which one? Either, both, and why? Bake. Playing with flours, butter, sugar and all the good stuff is when I relax. It's what I do to decompress and to share. However, I'm becoming more and more interested in cooking. There is so much I don't know about it, but anytime I'm in the kitchen, I'm learning and loving it.
What is the best thing you've ever eaten? Where did you eat it? I don't believe there is a single best thing I've ever had. There was a perfect honeycrisp, an out-of-this-world pomegranate, my first flawless taste of cara cara oranges, the caprese salad in Paris, a transportive cheese fondue, blueberry raspberry peach pie that made me fall in love with pie all over again, and the first slice of my mom's banana bread with melting chocolate chips fresh from the oven. There is too much sensational food to just pick one. I look forward to this list growing and multiplying as the years go by.
Share your favorite recipe I have so many favourite recipes, but one that I adore is this
gluten-free brownie recipe. Currently, it's what I'm craving. Yum!
