Cutting the apple into quarters or eighths before coring is one work-around, but then you have to pick up each slice and try to minimize the amount of apple you cut away from each while still removing the bits of core. It's all a delicate balance between not wasting too much good apple, leaving in too much core, and all-the-while keeping careful watch not to slice off a digit.

Luckily, I've got this awesome tip to help you maximize your apple cutting skills so you can get on with more important things in your day.

The trick is to slice the apple at an angle around the core. It's so simple, you'll be a little miffed you've been doing it any other way for all these years. Take a paring knife and cut in a concentric pattern like such:

There's nothing tricky other than the fact that you're cutting an apple differently than you've ever cut one before.
