The First Signs Of Breast Milk

Your Pregnancy Week 31

Sexy/icky pregnancy stuff alert!!

Yes, more things are leaking from your body – this time from your breasts. A yellowish or creamy substance may have started to leak from your nipples. This is colostrum or pre-milk  - the first stage of breast milk that lasts for several days after the birth of the baby and it is much thicker than the milk that is produced later. Not all women leak colostrum pre-delivery, but both leaking it and not leaking it is normal. You may want to invest in some nursing pads that can be placed in your bra to absorb it, since there is no little hungry baby to get rid of it for you just yet.

Or you can make colustrum ice cream out of it. You can't make this stuff up.

This week, your amazing growing baby is around 3 ½ pounds and about 17 inches tall. The wee beastie boy or beastie girl is continuing to develop a layer of fat under their skin in preparation for their arrival into the world. The fat also gives the baby more of a newborn appearance, because honestly, babies don't want to look like little old men. Over the next few weeks your baby will put on some serious weight -- the average size of a newborn is about 7 ½ pounds and 19 to 21 inches long. His skin has become thicker and he continues to become more of a pinkish color. Most of the wrinkles are disappearing from your baby's face, and there may be a lot of hair on his or her head.

As your baby continues to grow rapidly, you may feel increasing shortness of breath and heaviness. But not for too much longer; you're in the home stretch!
