Sperm Meets Egg

Your Pregnancy Week 2

Sex without contraception – fun times! 'Nuff said, right? Or in many cases today, implantation of a fertilized ovum by a fertilization specialist. Or perhaps someone else is carrying a child for you – or you are carrying one for someone else. However you might go about the process, a baby is going to be conceived near the end of this week or the beginning of next week and you can have a Happy Conception Party, complete with balloons (all those unused condoms must be good for something!) and chocolate, just no champagne or tequila shots – for the mom-to-be at least.

This week is all about odds: typically between 140 and 500 million sperm will try to hop, skip, jump and swim their way up your fallopian tubes to reach your one, lonesome, princess-in-an-ivory-tower egg. Only around 200 will make it to the end of this quest, and in most cases only one will earn the right to squirm itself into the egg whilst doing its own very microscopic end-of-the-line victory dance.

No matter where you’re at in your pregnancy our guide will keep you up-to-date. Find out more about what’s happening to your body here.
