Your Pregnancy Week 26

Vivid and Scary Dreams

Your Pregnancy Week 26

Your baby (insert your own colourful, interesting, hip nickname here) may now be tipping the scales at about two pounds and be around 9 inches long from the top of the head to the rump (or bum). The blood vessels in the lungs began growing and functioning last week and now the air sacs in the lungs begin this week. The lungs also begin to secrete a substance called surfactant, which covers the inner lining of the air sacs, allowing the lungs to expand normally during breathing.

Annnnd, drum roll please -- for the first time ever, your little darling's eyelids have finally opened (if you recall, they were fused shut up until now) and they’re probably having their first moments of sight as you read this – so be careful from now on what you place in front of your belly button as they are likely peeking out now that they can see.

Speaking of your bouncing baby, you may be noticing he is sleeping alot during the day. Your body movements are lulling your little mover to sleep. And at night, when you're ready to crash, suddenly he's ready to party.

Clearly, at this point in your pregnancy, sleep may not feel that restful any more. Extremely vivid or scary dreams (sometimes focusing on being a mother, sometimes on something completely nonsensical) may have cropped up due to hormones, the impending life-altering experience you are about to embark upon, or extreme fatigue. Your magically STILL growing belly may also make it hard to get into a comfortable position – remember that it is recommended that you get into the habit of sleeping on your side rather than your back for the remainder of the pregnancy.

All this is probably the universe's way of getting you used to not sleeping - cuz once you're a mother, sleep is a distant memory.

Annnnnnd finally trimester two has come to a close. Get ready for the third trimester…the final frontier.

No matter where you’re at in your pregnancy our guide will keep you up-to-date. Find out more about what’s happening to your body here.
