New Mom Uniform

What to Wear Until you Get your Groove Back

You will soon learn once your belly starts to grow, that as much as you wanted to look and be a celebrity mom, you will revert to the same favourite outfits for work and play. I like to call these my uniforms.

During pregnancy I had a few basic pieces and was very lucky that empire waist was the look of the year. I simply bought tops in larger sizes that worked out perfect with my growing belly. My all time favorite store for Maternity Clothes… SUPERSTORE JOE and favorite outfit the wrap dress. As your belly grows and the dress won’t quite wrap, simply wear a tank-top underneath to bridge the gap and close that exposed cleavage.

My favorite tanks that I got are the Gilligan & O’Malley nursing tank-tops for $16.99 from Target these are a quarter of the price of the Thyme maternity ones you get here. They have a great clip, that’s easy to undo and do up, to get those boobies out for a quick feed.

Thyme decided it would be great fun to build some sort of maze to get your boob through while breastfeeding, that looks similar to a mans boxers where they have the funky fabric fold over. There was also a bra/tank that has circular cutouts to hold your boobs, this caused shooting pains which almost felt like mastitis so I would steer clear as its hard to predict the size of your puppies once the milk has come in or when you become engorged. ENGORGED, ENGORGED, ENGORGED…sorry had to do that, its such a funny word until you are ENGORGED. The benefit of a full tank covering your middle area is great as that muffin top doesn’t go away overnight. I give myself the benefit of the doubt that I worked from the day Naiya was born and didn’t get to do Mommy boot camps for a year. I digress… lets get back on topic here.

I had visions of being a yummy mummy, sporting the latest fashions and trends and fitting my pretty feet that swelled to become giant marshmallows back into my stilettos and prancing around town with my baby rolling along side. This my fellow moms is a delusion, a celebrity or a 20 something year old.

My post pregnancy outfits consisted of what I call my uniforms. I think I had four:

Lulu Lemon pants, nursing tank, Lulu matching zip up - Comfy, fast, easy access to the boobs, easy enough to flop down into bed for a quick nap while baby snoozes

Jeans or Lulu pants, nursing tank, wrap sweater - My going out casual outfit, somehow I thought I looked like a ballet teacher with this wrap sweater look

Dress - Any dress with an empire waist was my “going out” outfit

See number 1 – either similar or number 1 washed. Rotation of the above in different colors.

Footwear – flip flops or anything FLAT Hair – Ponytail or that lovely new bracelet look I have of 2 hair elastics on my wrist at all times As I was told, remember it didn’t take a day to put on the weight.

Give it time and soon you will find your regular clothes fitting!
