Second Time's The Charm

Finding The Right Dress For Your Second Wedding

There are many advantages to getting married the second time around as a Yummy Mummy!

You realize your prince charming might not have a full head of hair but you know his heart is full of true love. You finally know who you are and what you want (and don’t) out of life. Now you’re ready to start the second chapter armed with a partner who will support those dreams and efforts.

However, when it comes to making a fashion statement while walking down the aisle again, it might feel like you are stuck between a snoozy skirt suit and big white cupcake gown. RELAX; I have always kept your kind in mind when designing my couture collections.

I design for the bride who wants a gown to can showcase her beauty, but not overwhelm her identity. In fact, I have put an emphasis on designing collections that make a statement about who you are, as well as having a beautiful aesthetic.

Here are my 5 tips and tricks for finding the perfect gown:

Inspiration: Start looking for inspiration in movies, magazines or anywhere that makes your heart skip a beat. Once you have identified the vibe you want your wedding to reflect, you can start finding a designer who can portray that feeling.  For example, I have been inspired to design my Eco Couture collection because of the demand by brides looking for a gown that can make a statement with an eco-friendly theme, while maintaining a luxurious feel.

Don’t Shop til You Drop:  Try not to cram too many stores in on one day. Avoid avoid “gown burnout”  - and stay clear of falling into the trap of making a decision just to be done with the process. You’re making one of your most important wedding day purchases  - don’t regret it!

Budget: If there is a designer whose work you love, don’t be shy to speak up. Most designers will try and accommodate your budget within reason. (You can eliminate a few floral bouquets, a few desserts off the dessert table, or chop a few guests off the list!)

My client Michelle came to see me on a tight budget with only few weeks to go before she left for her Hawaiian destination wedding. We were able to put something together that suited her style and budget. It was very moving to see how happy and stunning she looked.

The location, venue, season and time of day are key considerations: The bride’s gown sets the mood and tone for the wedding and should be appropriate to the setting. An exotic location calls for a gown with an exotic ‘mood”, light, airy and definitely a little sex appeal! By the way, destination weddings are one of the biggest trends in weddings today!  More formal locations would call for  a gown with more volume or presence.

Wear the gown, don’t let the gown wear YOU: If the only comments you hear when trying on a gown are about the gown, and not about how beautiful YOU look, then it is not the gown for you. Don’t be overpowered or overwhelmed by what you’re wearing. You should not disappear in a pouf of fabric, too much detail, or simply by being in the wrong texture or tone. Select a gown that will stand the test of time. Whether you choose to be traditional or contemporary, exercise good taste. Being tasteful is always timeless!
