Imagine for a moment if we could give the girls in our lives the secret to being happy and content.
Imagine if we could show them how to stave off negative people and comments.
Imagine if we could eradicate bullying just by empowering through modeling.
Imagine if we could shift girls’ perspectives of themselves easily and permanently by teaching them how to really understand who they are thereby deflecting external influencers.
For the past 4 years, I have been practicing mindfulness and meditation and witnessed what it has done for my self-knowledge and esteem. I have used meditation to support physical health (pain relief and post-surgical healing), mental health (permanently removing worry and anxiety from my life) and spiritual health (ensuring I make decisions to best support my mind, body and spirit).
The entire focus of my Coaching Practice and programs for girls and women is centered on mindfulness with meditation as the foundational tool to support the incorporation of daily mindfulness into families.
In today's massively connected world operating at breakneck speeds, our mindful, physical, and spiritual selves get lost in the chaos. Women lose the connection to self, which is at the core of self-esteem and empowerment. In these quiet moments, we fuel our creativity, let go of negative thoughts, and become in tune with how to best take care of ourselves — mind, body and spirit. In the quiet we see our truth.
As the number one role model in our daughter’s life, our empowered sense of self is naturally shared with our daughters positively affecting their self-esteem and self-confidence!
Here are a few simple ways to help you and your daughter incorporate mindfulness and meditation into your daily lives.
This is SO simple and yet SO amazing—the conversations that can ensue during mother-daughter time. Share with your daughter some of your stories of empowerment from her grandmothers or great grandmothers. In fact, include grandmothers in the discussions.
Doing this will support and encourage mindfulness and meditation — it will become a GREAT place for the entire family to unwind.
This is a great way for you and your daughter to participate and practice meditation.
Community groups can help open up lines of communication between Moms-Guardians/Daughters with respect to self-esteem. Dove will be hosting a series of free mother/daughter self-esteem workshops in October across Canada along with YMC Bloggers and #YMCCommunity Bloggers. This is a great place to start.
Whether you are 2 or 92, mindfulness through meditation allows you to stop and celebrate your magnificence at any age!
Visit our 'self-esteem resource page' for helpful info on how to talk with your daughter about real beauty and self-esteem.
We need you to be a part of the Dove mission to improve the self-esteem of over 15 million girls by 2015.
