Teacher's Back-to-School Tips

Secrets From a Teaching Mummy

Back to school time is here!

I have always looked forward to going back to school. The excitement started and the end of the previous school year, it built as the back to school supplies were purchased and finally the eve of the first day of school was upon us, sleep escaped me. That experience still rings true today, formerly as a student now as a teacher.

This is a list of my top  5 of my best tips and tricks to make the back to school adventure less chaotic and more enjoyable for students and parents:

Label, label, label....everything, because 10 other Mom’s got the same great deal on the smelly markers! Just recently,I found Mabel’s Labels Skinny Minis, love them, they are  perfect for pens, pencils, etc. These labels have made my back to school prep a much less daunting task.

September is hot! Do not send your child in “ready for fall” sweaters, jumpers, hoodies and jeans on the first day of school. Your child will be irritable and generally unpleaseant when they get home, that first day, because they have been sweating in their clothes all day...yuck!

Pack lunches that your child will eat, or better yet have them help you prepare the  lunches. There have been too many instances where kids have “dumped” unwanted lunch items or traded veggies for pop tarts.

Take 5 minutes every evening and retrieve notes, planners, field trip forms, newsletters and lunch order forms from you child’s backpack. After you have signed, dated and counted out the fees due, put everything in a Ziploc or envelope with your child’s & teachers name in it, then staple it to the planner.

Think of your teacher as part of your team. Together you work together to help your child succeed.

There are no pictures of my in the house since the birth of my first daughter, camera breaks for some reason..hmmmm...
