My son always liked those little applesauce cups that you can buy in the store, but once I saw the sugar content on them I wasn't so sure *I* liked them. Then I realized that I had a pile of apples in the fridge and thought...hmmmm...couldn't I just make that myself?
The results were just amazing!
Ingredients:
4 pounds apples
1 cup blackberries
1/4 cup maple syrup
Peel and core apples, then chop into pieces. Throw into a pot with about 1 cup of water. Bring to a boil and cook until the apples are soft and break down, adding more water if needed. (you could use apple juice if you want)
Toss in the blackberries and cook a bit more until everything is chunky and cooked-sometimes I use a potato masher to get out the big hunks.
Remove from heat and add maple syrup. Stir well.
