Super Fruit Smoothies Recipe

A Healthy Smoothie Snack

Super Fruit Smoothies Recipe

Smoothies are one of our favourite snacks, often made on a Saturday to use up leftover fruit hanging around in the fridge or extra bananas on the counter. If you know you're going to be making smoothies, peel the bananas and freeze them flat in a freezer bag so that they are ready to pop into a blender when you want to use them. We love using various combinations of berries, but peaches, mangos, and other various fruits make for a good drink as well.

This recipe makes enough for two people, which means I often make this for lunch and share with my son Kevin. If you're not going to drink it right away it will keep for a few hours in the fridge. Teens, I've found, love to make smoothies and experiment with different flavour combinations, so teach them how to use the blender and let them go crazy! For kids who are not into eating that much dairy, smoothies are a great alternative.

Ingredients:

1 banana, frozen
1 cup of mixed frozen fruit (various berries, mango, and peaches are good choices)
2 heaping tablespoons of plain yogurt
1 small handful of mixed nuts (you could omit this if you need to)
1 small handful of rolled oats (not instant)
1 cup of milk, soy milk, or apple juice
honey or maple syrup to sweeten a bit

Toss everything in the blender in that order listed. Whiz until smooth.

Makes 2 large glasses
