Easy Chocolate Mousse Recipe

Rich, Smooth, and Decadent

Easy Chocolate Mousse Recipe

If you are looking for an easy, yet decadent Valentine’s Day dessert, look no further. Rich and smooth, chocolate mousse is the perfect way to end an evening.  Dress it up with a dollop of whipping cream and some chocolate curls on top for adults, or crumble some oreos over top for kids. Either way, it’s one of the easiest desserts to make with ingredients you likely already have in your fridge.

Ingredients:

8 oz semi sweet chocolate, chopped
6 Tbsp / 3 oz unsalted butter
3 large eggs, separated
1 tbsp Grand Marnier (optional) or vanilla, if serving to kids
1 cup whipping cream
pinch salt

In a double boiler over simmering water, melt the chocolate and butter together until smooth. Set aside to cool.

Beat the egg whites and salt in a large bowl with clean beaters until soft peaks form. Set aside.

Using a different bowl, beat the yolks for about 2-4 minutes until they are lighter in color and thickened. Set aside.

In another medium sized bowl, beat the whipping cream until you have stiff peaks. Set aside.

Whisk the beaten yolks into the cooled butter and chocolate mixture, along with the alcohol or vanilla, if using. Gently fold in the egg whites and whipping cream until well incorporated. Spoon the mixture into eight 4 inch ramekins, smoothing the tops. They may not seem like they are full, but this dessert is very rich so you don’t need a lot. Cover with cling film and chill for about 2 hours. The mousses will last for about 2 days, if you can resist them that long.
