Bacon Cheddar Toasts Recipe

A Holiday Hit

Bacon Cheddar Toasts Recipe

Inspired by a commercial, I made these at home with home made bacon jam and they were the hit of our holiday! Easy but packed full of flavor, you can make these in just minutes and serve as either an appetizer, snack, lunch with a salad or soup, or as we did, just gobble them down because you feel like it. Now, the quantities are not exact but this should make approximately 20 toasts.

Ingredients:

1 baguette, sliced about 1/2 inch thick on the diagonal (you may not need the whole thing)
1 garlic clove, sliced in half lengthwise
300 g sharp cheddar, sliced thinly (enough to cover the bread slices)
250 ml bacon jam (yours or store bought)
2-3 ripe pears, cored, sliced
fresh thyme

  Turn on your broiler.

Toast the baguette slices until golden. When you take them out of the oven, rub all over with the garlic clove.  Top each with a slice or two of cheese and then put them back under the broiler to melt the cheese until bubbly.

Take the toasts out of the oven and transfer to a plate. Top each with a spoonful of bacon jam, then set two slices of pear on each and sprinkle with thyme leaves.

  Serve immediately.

Makes approximately 20
