Summer Fun Photo Tips

Tips to Help You Get the Most From Your Digital Camera

Summer is finally upon us!

No doubt we’ll be taking a break to enjoy it, whether at home or away.  One thing is for certain – there will be lots of opportunities for photos of family and friends as they enjoy their summer activities.

The compact Fujifilm S1500 is packed with features to zoom in and capture perfect pics of those summer memories. But how can you ensure that you get a really good shot?

Here are some hints and tips that will help you get the most from your digital camera:

Get up close – from far away

If your camera has a zoom lens, you can use it to create dramatic shots by creating a smaller depth of field – the part of the photograph that appears sharp.

Just by stepping back from the subject and using the zoom means that you can easily get rid of backgrounds that can easily distract.

Watch Your Shutter Speed

Taking a picture using a long lens or a zoom might cause some camera shake, so you should use a high shutter speed to make sure the picture isn’t blurry.

You could even select Picture Stabilization or Sports mode on your camera and let it do the work to get a clear picture.

Pre Focus

You can get great shots of the kids at sports and other events by using a zoom lens to get closer to the action. But capturing that perfect moment from so far away can often be challenging. One trick is to ‘pre focus’ by pointing the camera at something the same distance away as the action and half-press the shutter button to lock the focus. You’re now ready to capture the perfect moment – you don’t have to wait the extra split second it can take to focus.

Follow The Motion

If you’re taking shots of moving objects – people, animals, vehicles, etc – from a distance using a long lens, it can be hard to keep it in the frame as you take a picture. If you practice ‘panning’ – following the motion as you shoot – you’ll end up with fewer wasted shots. An easier way is to use “Tracking Auto focus” (available on the S1500) which locks on your subject and follows it around in the LCD screen until you snap the picture.

Of course, one of the benefits of using a digital camera is that you can experiment over and over again with your camera, so just get out there, start shooting and have fun!
