The Baby Formula

In a world that pressures women to look younger, fitter and leaner - but not to get meaner - as they grow older, it was such a sweet surprise, at five months pregnant, to be offered one of the lead roles in Alison Reid's debut feature film "The Baby Formula".

I cannot explain how amazing it felt to be a part of this project. As an actress, my physical appearance is constantly under scrutiny. I have become far too accustomed to losing parts through coded words such as being too "mature" or too "shapely" to play the lead roles. Being a part of the "Baby Formula" changed all that for me. I was encouraged to let my belly and bodacious ta-tas hang out.  Truth be told, I never felt sexier!

It was such an empowering experience to create a living being inside of me, and to work in an environment that embraced the changes in my body, instead of trying to hide them with various camera angles and lighting tricks. I know what you mums are thinking: "There's no way it was that easy." You know what? You’re right. Being back on set just two weeks after giving birth wasn't so easy.

But being a part of something that celebrates being a woman in one of the most amazing, emotional, empowering, miraculous and strangest things our sex gets to experience was too good to pass up.
This was the first time I had ever played a character so close to my own experiences. Being and playing a pregnant woman was a visceral adventure, especially in the scenes where my character was worried about the health of her baby or about having a good ultra sound. I could relate to Athena’s emotions because I was having the same ones in my own life.

This film will always have a special place in my heart, not only because of the freedom it has given me as an actress, but also as a mother (Wow I'm still not used to say that--I can't believe I am someone's mother!!).  A bonus of using my real baby onscreen is that I will forever have those first few weeks of life with her documented.  No matter how old she gets, I will always be able to pop in "The Baby Formula" dvd and look back on it.

Having the ability to love someone and to create a living being out of that love is truly a beautiful thing.  I believe everyone should have that right, and hopefully this film will bring awareness to the science that could one day make that possible.  I thank Alison Reid for this opportunity and was proud to be a part of it.

Growing up in the suburbia of small-town Oshawa, Angela Vint is a long way from where she started. While landing her first tv gig on "TRADERS", which also gave her a Gemini nomination, she was still in Universtiy. Since then she has tried to make a name for herself as an established Canadian actor.

She has gone on to star in both Canadian and New Zealand tv series such as "Mercy Peak", "This is Wonderland", "Blue Murder" and many more. Her film credits include leading roles in features such as "Urban Legends", "19 Months" and "Slatlands" as well various stageworks such as "Closer" and "Dangerous Liasons".

After starring in her first short film, SUCCUBUS, Angela is thrilled to join forces once more with director, Alison Reid in THE BABY FORMULA: "It is very rare to land such a great role, in a great script and get to work with such talented cast and crew. To find that combination all in one project is a luxury and I loved every minute of it.”
